Letter Sign

What does it do?

It forces a letter sign (e.g. dots 5,6 in English) according to the braille table and language in use and is usually used to precede acronyms. (See Language Translation Tables for details)  In cases where acronyms are NOT prefixed, use the [i] code explained in Uncontracted Braille (Single Word).  It should be noted that this code also prevents contractions in the word or acronym following.

Where would it be used?

To force a letter sign.

Usage in DBT:

Dell Jones has the same first name as [ii]DELL computers

Produces in Braille:

,dell ,j"os has ! same f/

"n z ;,,dell -put]s

 

Note:  In many countries, "grade 1 indicator" is referred to as a "Letter Sign", and immediately precedes an Acronym.
