MegaDots Inkprint Printer Compatibility

The list of inkprint printers inside of MegaDots is based on a proprietary database which is not being updated. There are hundreds of printers which are compatible with MegaDots, which do not show up in the model lists built into MegaDots. This causes a lot of confusion and tech support calls.

There are 5 protocols for driving printers that are widely supported. These are PCL 5, PCL 4, PCL 3, Postscript, and the Cannon BJC600 family. But how do we learn which modern printers support these protocols? The Linux community has been working on this same issue.

The web site linuxprinting dot org is a useful resource for MegaDots. We would like to take portions of the web site and include it with our documentation, but the license and copyright text appear to restrict this.

But there is nothing to prevent us from asking you to look at certain pages from the website and seeing if your printer is on the list. We figure you are smart enough to realize that we know you not are using Linux. Please ignore all the talk about Linux, and concentrate on the list of printers at the end of each of these web pages. The key questions is, do you see your printer on any of these lists?

• 1. PCL 5: If a printer is in the "driver is hpijs" page of linuxprinting dot org but not on the MegaDots inkprint printer list, Tell MegaDots that you are printing to an HP LaserJet 4. An example of a printer that supports PCL 5 is the Lexmark Optra E.
• 2. PCL 4: If a printer is in the "driver is LaserJet" page of linuxprinting dot org but not on the MegaDots inkprint printer list, Tell MegaDots that you are printing to an HP LaserJet II. An example of a printer that supports PCL 4 is the Brother MFC-8300.
• 3. PCL 3: If a printer is in the "driver is pcl3" page of linuxprinting dot org but not on the MegaDots inkprint printer list, Tell MegaDots that you are printing to an HP LaserJet Plus. An example of a printer that supports PCL 3 is the Lexmark 3000.
• 4. Postscript: I f a printer is in the "driver is postscript" page of linuxprinting dot org but not on the MegaDots inkprint printer list, Tell MegaDots that you are printing to an Adobe Postscript An example of a printer that supports Postscript is the Lexmark Optra Color 1200.
• 5. Canon: If a printer is in the "driver is bjc600" page of linuxprinting dot org but not on the MegaDots inkprint printer list, Tell MegaDots that you are printing to a Cannon BJC-4200 An example of a printer that supports the Cannon driver is the Canon MultiPass 5500.
