Feb. 1, 2010 Tech Support Flash News:

New Problem: When you try to launch MegaDots, you get the message:
Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item.

It may be that you were using MegaDots just fine on this system and the problem just seemed to arise out of nowhere.

Possible Cause: A Microsoft security update package that was automatically deployed is blocking 16-bit applications from utilizing ntvdm.exe, without which MegaDots and other 16-bit MS-DOS applications cannot run.

Fix: Run Microsoft Fixit 50367 patch removal from: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979682 (run the second Microsoft Fix It on this page; the icon contains the words "disable this fix")

Note: The Microsoft Fixit 50364 item is the security update whose installation on your system caused this problem.
