Default Templates in DBT

The following is a summary of the Templates which are currently supplied with DBT.

It should be noted that all the XML (Daisy-NISO) styles are now incorporated into the Basic templates. So almost any template can be used to work with Daisy-NISO files. We retain the template English (American) - XML (Daisy-NISO-NIMAS) only to give updating users something familiar. The templates that cannot be used for this type of import are the two BANA templates.

NOTE: Where a Template is shown as "basic", it will usually follow the description given for English (American) - Standard Literary Format described below, but with the appropriate language applied.

Afrikaans - basic

Arabic - basic

Bulgarian - basic

Croatian - basic

Cymraeg (Welsh) - basic no capitals

Danish - basic

Dutch - basic

Dutch Uncontracted - basic

English (American Textbook DE) - BANA

Translation table: English/American Textbook (distinct emphases) (i.e. bold and italic are normally distinguished)

Page number positions: Typical for BANA Textbooks, i.e. print page number in upper right, braille page number in lower right.

Style library: Specially designed to conform to BANA terminology (e.g. in "Braille Formats" guideline document) and to work well with "BANA" template for Microsoft Word. For more detailed information, see Word Template BANA Braille.

English (American Textbook DE) - BANA Nemeth

English (American Textbook DE) - Textbook Format

Translation table: English/American Textbook (distinct emphases) (i.e. bold and italic are normally distinguished)

Page number positions: Typical for BANA Textbooks, i.e. print page number in upper right, braille page number in lower right.

Style library: Basic styles per classic "Standard" and "Textbook" templates in DBT versions 10.4 and earlier.

English (American) - Standard Literary Format

Translation table: English/American (i.e. for literary usage per BANA's "English Braille American Edition").

Page number positions: Typical for BANA literary material, i.e. no print page number and braille page number in upper right.

Style library: Basic styles per classic "Standard" and "Textbook" templates in DBT versions 10.4 and earlier.

English (American) - XML (Daisy-NISO-NIMAS)

Translation table: English/American (i.e. for primarily literary usage per BANA's "English Braille American Edition")

Page number positions: Typical for BANA Textbooks, i.e. print page number in upper right, braille page number in lower right.

Style library: This is an extensive superset of the basic styles (except that "italic," "bold," and "underlined" are omitted as redundant), designed especially to work well for importing XML (Daisy-NISO) or similarly tagged files.

English (Australian)

English (British) - no capitals in literary

Translation table: English/British (but with capitals suppressed in literary portions of the text per an "initial" style code).

Page number positions: Per UKAAF. Page information line, i.e. print page number at upper left and braille page number in upper right.

Style library: Basic styles per classic "Standard" and "Textbook" templates in DBT versions 10.4 and earlier.

English (British) - with capitals

Translation table: English/British.

This template has a superset of the styles defined for Basic templates. It is suitable for most any French braille use. The enhanced functionality makes it especially nice for use with Word documents created using the "Francais - 2006" template for Word.

Translation table: French (with Antoine numbering by default, due to commands in the initial style)

Page number positions: Print page number in upper right, braille page number in lower right.

* The Irish tables and templates wre updated by Duxbury Systems Inc., in November 2005, in co-operation with Techno-Vision Systems Ltd, UK and the National Braille Production Centre in Dublin, the braille standard-setting organisation in Ireland, which provided expert advice on Irish Braille and helped develop the template to its current settings.
