Word Style Map (MWS File)

Thanks to the Style Map file, when DBT imports a file from Word for Windows, it recognizes any default styles applied to the text in Word, and it applies corresponding DBT braille styles. For example the Word "Heading 1" Style, becomes DBT's "h1." heading style in DBT.

The Style Map can give you tremendous control over how imported Word documents are formatted and can save you, literally, hours of work.

If a document contains custom user-defined Word styles, DBT will not know about them automatically. However, you can use a utility called SWIFT, an add-in for Word, to map even user-defined styles to DBT styles.

SWIFT is available only for Word on the Windows platform. Details for using SWIFT are available in DBT's main Help system.

If you are following BANA braille formatting and rules, you may alternatively use the "Braille" Template in Word, which may be installed with DBT on your system. See the Help Topic called "The BANA Braille Template for Word" for a full explanation.

Experienced users may want to create and maintain their own Word Style Map (.mws) files. They are contained in the DBT program's Templates folder. For details on how Style Map files work, please see "Editing the ".mws" file" topic.
