Setting Up a Generic/Text Only Driver on Windows 11
- Press the windows key.
- Type the word printers.
- Select the first option that appears.
- Activate the Add a printer or scanner button.
- It’ll search for printers you already have, and once this is done, just tab to and activate the Add manually button.
- Here you get a load of radio buttons, but it says there are only 3. Take no notice, and arrow down to add a local or network printer manually.
- Tab to and activate the next button.
- This is where it gets tricky, as if your printer is connected via a usb to parallel cable, finding which port it is on is a problem. Arrow down until you find the USB port you think it’s attached to,
- Activate the next button.
- Generic/text only is already selected, so just go click the next button.
- You then get to chose whether you use the driver currently installed or use an updated driver. I’d go for the first option, and activate next.
- You can then type the printer name, and press next.
- I don’t have mine shared, but at this point you get to choose. Once you’ve selected your choice, activate next.
- You’re then given the chance to print a test page. If you do this, it’ll print a load of things in grade I braille.
- Activate the Finish button, and you’re done.
The only problem you may have is guessing the usb port, but if you don’t succeed then try again.
