Setting Up a Generic/Text Only Driver on Windows 11

  1. Press the windows key.
  2. Type the word printers.
  3. Select the first option that appears.
  4. Activate the Add a printer or scanner button.
  5. It’ll search for printers you already have, and once this is done, just tab to and activate the Add manually button.
  6. Here you get a load of radio buttons, but it says there are only 3. Take no notice, and arrow down to add a local or network printer manually.
  7. Tab to and activate the next button.
  8. This is where it gets tricky, as if your printer is connected via a usb to parallel cable, finding which port it is on is a problem. Arrow down until you find the USB port you think it’s attached to,
  9. Activate the next button.
  10. Generic/text only is already selected, so just go click the next button.
  11. You then get to chose whether you use the driver currently installed or use an updated driver. I’d go for the first option, and activate next.
  12. You can then type the printer name, and press next.
  13. I don’t have mine shared, but at this point you get to choose. Once you’ve selected your choice, activate next.
  14. You’re then given the chance to print a test page. If you do this, it’ll print a load of things in grade I braille.
  15. Activate the Finish button, and you’re done.

The only problem you may have is guessing the usb port, but if you don’t succeed then try again.
