Once you have Perky Duck installed, you will want to connect it to your output devices, especially your braille embosser (or your printer). At a minimum, this is the time when you should take the trouble to set up the output device you intend to work with.
Apart from connecting output devices, you might want to customize your Perky Duck program by setting the fonts to be used, options for auto-saving your work, your preferred user interface language, and other preferences. Below we list the aspects of Perky Duck that you can configure and give you links to each.
Generally speaking, most of these options appear in the Global menu.
Depending on the expectations of your instructor, you may be producing your work on a braille embosser or on a printer used to simulate braille output.
For information about setting up your braille embosser, you need to go to the Global Menu: Embosser Setup.
In Windows: If you have a printer (for ordinary print, not for braille), it should be set up in the normal way for a Windows printer. This is usually done through the "Add Printer" facility within "Printers" or "Devices and Printers" in the Control Panel, or equivalently in Start > Settings > Devices. Choose the driver that matches the printer as supplied by Windows or the printer manufacturer.
For detailed instructions on setting up your printer in Perky Duck, see the Global Menu: Printer Setup.
Perky Duck has a feature called "Autosave" that can prevent you from losing your work if you forget to save your file.
The Global View Preferences determine whether your braille lines are numbered, but they also set the keys used for 6-Key braille input, your margin bell, and other useful items.
See Global Menu: View Preferences
You can select your preferred font size both on-screen and for output.
Go to Global Menu: Fonts for more information.
For those who are not native English speakers (the default language for Perky Duck), you can choose one of several other languages for the Perky Duck menus and dialogs.
